Medical care for children
Consultation with an orthopedic technician and physiotherapist
The consultation takes place during rehabilitation courses at the POGA center. Two specialists participate during the consultation - a technical orthopedist and a physiotherapist working with children. This consultation is necessary to assess the situation regarding existing or necessary orthoses and other aids. The child is examined and assessed, based on which a decision is made on the most appropriate aid that is recommended. The technical orthopedist, if necessary, makes orthoses, looking for individual solutions. There are various types of orthoses and aids, for example: AFO, KAFO, RGO orthoses, which should be worn with orthopedic shoes suitable for orthoses. As well as technical aids: verticalizer, positioning tools, quadripods, rollators and others. Their choice is influenced by various parameters – the child’s diagnosis, medical-clinical assessment, examinations, age, height, deformities, cognitive abilities, etc., therefore, the technical orthopedist, together with the physiotherapist, not only selects the most suitable assistive device for the child, but also educates about its necessity, use and control in order to improve the child’s functional abilities.
